Renderer

A renderer (solid plasterer) applies decorative and protective coverings of cement or similar materials to the exterior (and occasionally interior) of buildings.

What does this job involve?

Plumb

And straighten corners, angles, wall and ceiling surfaces.

Mix

And apply coats of cement or similar materials to walls and ceilings, levelling and smoothing using trowels to obtain an even thickness.

Apply

Decorative finishes.

How do I get into this career?

The most common pathway is via an apprenticeship. However, a renderer can start as a trade assistant or labourer, then, after a few years, have their skills assessed through a process called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to obtain a trade qualification.
